Description of the Safety Recall:

A brake light switch is at risk of malfunctioning due to exposure to contaminants.  These contaminants seep in through the switch housing and cause a build up of residue on the switch contact terminal.  The brake lamp switch may lose conductivity resulting in a malfunction.  Depending on the model this issue can affect brake light illumination while driving or when starting and parking the vehicle.  There is an increased risk of rear-end collision because the vehicles break lights may not come on when the driver slows the vehicle.

How is it fixed and how long will it take?

The Brake Lamp Switch would be replaced and installed using a silicone free grease.  This replacement should take approximately 1-2 hours and needs to be performed by a certified technician at a Subaru Dealership.  We stock the replacement switches and are happy to help you.
