It was cloudy and just beginning to drizzle late afternoon on July 31st of this year. My friend and I were driving on 95 northbound going about 70 in the right hand lane, talking about the events that transpired earlier that day. When all of a sudden, a little after mile marker 65, we heard a terrible sound. The only way to describe it is as tremendous, booming noise that echoed throughout the entire vehicle. I quickly looked over to the driver who had his arms outstretched clenching the steering wheel as if hanging on for dear life. The car seemed to fly into the left hand lane, the driver then tried to correct the pulling as he was unsure if traffic was approaching. I, at that point, was still unsure as to what was happening and why. It only took a mere second after that for me to actualize what was going on, my left rear tire had blown out. The driver attempted to realign the car and bring us safely to a stop on the right hand side of the road, but this proved impossible.
The next few moments were a blur, the only things I remember were the sounds.. glass shattering and metal being crushed and feeling as if we were thrown into a clothes dryer filled with muddy water and debris. Once we came to a stop, I slowly opened my eyes. My feet, once dressed with a brand new pair of ALDO shoes, were now bare and above my head. The driver seemed to scream "ARE YOU OKAY", to which I was only able to answer in a whisper, "yes". We were on the roof of the car, surrounded by what seemed to be a swamp. The water was slowing leaking into the car from the broken windows. We needed to get out. We both unbuckled our seat belts and fell forward and down, I caught myself on the dash board realizing the air bags hadn't deployed. He attempted to open his door but couldn't, we were so deep in weeds and mud. My heart began to race even faster that it was previously, I was sure we were stuck. I closed my eyes for a brief moment and reopened them to him yelling "come on!". He had kicked the door open. He gripped my hand and pulled me out of the car. Once safely away from the wreckage I looked back and truly realized the extent of what we had gone through. My car was upside down facing the wrong direction in a swamp on the side of interstate 95. We had flipped on the roof and rolled over twice. It was the most horrific thing I have ever seen, but we survived. Amazingly, both the driver and I escaped without injuries and I attribute that to my Subaru.
I am 100% certain that if I had been driving anything else, I wouldn't be writing this today. Not only did Evergreen Subaru and it's wonderful salesman, Tony Roberts, sell me my life saver, they supported me though the entire insurance claims process. When purchasing my 2007 Legacy I had no clue what GAP insurance was, Tony Quatrano took the time to explain exactly what it is and why it's important when buying a new car. I'm so glad he did. I'm now driving a 2009 Forester, once again purchased through Evergreen. I will never buy a car from anywhere else, I am a client for life. Thank you all for helping me through this overwhelming and abstruse time.
